Planning Your Visit -- Travel Tips

Heart of Ohio

Bucyrus is in the Eastern Time Zone. Bucyrus and all nearby cities follow daylight savings time. Because Bucyrus is near the western edge of the Eastern Time Zone the sun can set as much as an hour later than it does in coastal areas of the United States.

Bucyrus' zip code is 44820. The local area codes are 419 and 567. The Bucyrus area uses 10 digit dialing. Your hotel may have extended local calling, which will allow you to call Galion, Crestline, Tiro, and Shelby toll-free.

Local radio stations are 92.7 FM, which plays "classic rock" from the 60's, 70's, and 80's, and 1540 AM which offers a mix of big band music along with local news and sports.

Numbers for MSN, AOL, and Earthlink are available if your hotel supports extended local calling. Local ISP's may be located in the telephone book.

Pizza delivery generally stops at midnight. No local Chinese restaurants deliver. No local grocery stores are open 24 hours, although several convenience marts operate 24/7.

In Bucyrus a carbonated soft drink is called "pop". Calling it soda might get you mineral water. We'll look at you funny if you order a hoagie or a grinder, but we'll know what you mean if you call it a submarine sandwich. We don't have hotdog or hamburg rolls, but we do have hotdog and hamburger buns.

For travelers from drier, warmer climates and for travelers from abroad, if you find yourself sneezing a lot when you visit us, autumn is one of Ohio's peak allergy seasons. Over the counter antihistamines will help make your stay more pleasant.

Bucyrus is the Bratwurst capital of America; we even throw a festival for it. Don't mistake their wurst for our wurst. Our wurst is the best!! Order a "brat", get it with kraut, mustard and onion on a rye bun and we won't be able to tell you apart from a native. Grab a few pounds to take home with you, or order it online from our two fantastic bratwurst manufacturers.

Finally, we're friendly. Don't be afraid to ask us questions. Don't be afraid to say hello. Don't be afraid to start up a conversation.
